Bears Head

From I-81, take exit 38 at Delano and turn west from the ramp onto Lakeside Ave. Drive 0.6 miles to a T and turn right onto Hazle Street. Cross RR tracks in a quarter mile and continue a tenth mile to a fork. Take the left fork, SR 1016, and drive 0.8 miles to a gated gravel road on the left. Since the gate was open and not posted, I drove up the gravel road 0.8 miles to the end at the radio towers (passing a second gate at 0.5 miles). The summit area consists of two adjacent fenced areas. The radio tower is inside the larger fence, but this fence was open. Again there were no signs except one that warns that you will be on a monitor. The smaller adjacent fence around the old fire tower is locked. I did not see a benchmark, but the summit area is large and flat (and probably altered due to the radio tower and its building), so walk around by the fire tower fence and inside the radio fence until you are satisfied.
