Things are just as previous directions would have you believe. The gate was open, so I was able to get to the tower area from the Interstate in 7 minutes. There were some folks from Philadelphia who had a key to the fire tower gate, so they let me wander the bottom inside the fence. I said thank you and didn't ask too many questions about where they got a key, since they did not volunteer the information.

The heliport to the west of the towers looked as high as anything but we still walked the fence perimeter just to cover our bets.
