Susquehanna County Highpoint Trip Report
North Knob on Elk Hill
Date: May 29, 2004
Author: David Orsheski
Elk Hill is located in the ski resort of Elk Mountain. Directions to the resort from their
web site.
Once at the entrance, bear to the left and look for the sign for Elk
Wagon Waiting Area. Park here.
The ski lift is directly in front of this parking area and the radio tower where the highpoint is
located is in plain view. Follow the ski slope to the top - about 0.75 mile.
At the crest, go left to a set of sheds,
keeping the radio tower in view. The highpoint is on a hill directly behind the first shed.
On top of the hill is a small mound. This is the highpoint.
I tied some pink surveyor ribbon to a rotted board and left it in the weeds on
this small hill. There is also a USGS survey marker behind a small grey shed to the south.
Note: The topo indicates an access road coming in to the summit from the west. Though we didn't
investigate this approach, it may be wise to do so. You may gain a bit more in mileage, but it may save the
hike up an extremely steep slope.
Hike statistics: total distance about 1.5 miles, total elevation gain 893 feet.
