Wayne County Highpoint Trip Report
spot elevation on Mount Ararat (2,656 ft) and two points 1,700 feet north (2,640+ ft)
Date: July 20, 2007

This updates Bob Schwab's 2004 report. T he top of Mount Ararat is still
cleared, but all that has been built is a small frame building atop spot
elevation 2656 and a large antenna to the north. When we arrived, the red gate
was hanging open, so we drove up the road, passable by carefully driven sedan,
and Martinized the summit. Quite a change from the vicious, thorny bushwhack
required seven years ago! If the gate is locked, hike up the road an easy mile
to the summit.
We met a gentleman working on top who graciously let us hike over to the two
northern bumps. The large clearing is beginning to become overgrown and the
cleared path mentioned by Bob leading to the two bumps is rapidly becoming a sea
of briars. Our opinion is that the two northern bumps do not come close to the
2,656 spot elevation in altitude and I for one would give credit for the county
to anyone reaching the spot elevation. There is a large wind farm some miles
south that extends for several miles along the crest of the Moosic Mountains but
no sign of impending further development on Ararat.
