Angel Mountain Trip Report
4,555 ft
Edward Earl and I did this together as it is on his 1,000+ ft prominence list
of San Diego County peaks.
We started from his car as a southern approach and climbed efficiently cross-country
until major brush was encountered. One hour to gain 150-200 ft of elevation. It was
nasty indeed. The final 150 vertical feet was under the tree canopy and easier.
No view of Lake Henshaw to the east - disappointing Edward. We descended after 30 minutes
via a faint trail that paralleled the summit ridge northwest - this time along the
north slope of the mountain. Eventually we returned to the road grid via a
western end-around and we were back at the car at 1 PM some 4 hours after leaving it.
We spent the remainder of the afternoon scouting out approach routes for Pine Mountain.
