Eagle Peak Trip Report

Although Eagle Peak lies in close physical proximity to El Capitan in San Diego County, it is separated by a reservoir and is approached from a completely different direction via a lengthy dirt road from the north.

Owing to a "late" pick-up of Edward at 7 AM and the unforseen length of the dirt section noted above, we did not start until the ungodly late hour of 9:05 AM. The summit was attained by perhaps 11:30 and we tarried some 40-45 minutes with views in all directions pleasing to the eye.

I got back to my home well past 3 PM - too late, once lunch enjoyed, to read my magazines without it getting dark first.

This was the first ascent of 2002 for me and had a total elevation gain of perhaps 1,500 feet.
