Sycuan Peak Trip Report
2,801 ft
Date: November 28, 2002
Edward Earl and myself had planned on high prominence desert peaks for the Thanksgiving weekend.
However the weather forecasts did not cooperate and so this local hike became a sort of
consolation prize.
I did this hike with Edward Earl on Thanksdiving Day morning (November 28, 2002).
From a saddle that the road passed over it was a mere 20-25 minutes uphill 800 vertical feet to the summit.
We spent just under one-half hour on top and then descended.
At base I napped (or tried to) in my Toyota Tacoma while Edward walked west along the road so as to get
downhill enough to make it a 1,000 foot vertical gain if considered as a loop hike ("explicit Earlization").
He took longer to do that (over 40 minutes) than it took to climb the mountain! Evidently he had
to walk much farther than originally anticipated - and stated on return that he should have walked east
along the road instead.
