Nearby Prominence Hierarchy Hills Trip Report
Dates: March 17, March 23, and April 26, 2008
A reference
to understand the rationale for visiting these hilltops.
Three nearby hills and one mountaintop were visited upon learning they belong to my
prominence-based parent hierarchy
and/or to my prominence distance ladder.
Here are the four summits of interest -
- Unnamed at (32°57'17" N, 117°13'11" W) with P = 140±20 feet and E = 410±10 feet.
Visited Sunday, April 26. Highest ground is at a home on the southwest end of a cul-de-sac.
This hill was hiked from home and back over some ninety minutes.
- BM Town at (32°57'01" N, 117°14'54" W) with P = 200±10 feet and E = 430±10 feet.
Visited Monday, March 17. Highest ground lies on a line running north-northwest
within a residential community. Everything has been leveled.
- BM Miramar at (32°56'06" N, 117°06'57" W) with P = 254±10 feet and E = 844 feet.
Visited Sunday, March 23. Access is easy from a 600 foot elevation dead-end street
1/4 mile northwest. Interstate 15 lies immediately east.
- Mount Whitney at (33°06'32" N, 117°09'16" W) with P = 1,046±10 feet and E = 1,736 feet.
Visited Monday, March 17. The sole significant physical effort, a round-trip consumed
some three hours with perhaps 1,200 feet of net elevation gain. There are some private
property issues.
Now that these local summits have been visited (or in some cases what's left of them),
the only remaining efforts are grand indeed -
Denali and possibly Mount Logan.
I have no intention of climbing Mount Everest at the end of both hierarchies.
