Ludwig Purtscheller ? 1700 peaks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_Purtscheller unknown 1,000+? a few New England Hikers They use 200' drop in N.E., makes it tough to accurately count the 300' drop peaks Note that half a contour interval can be added at unmarked summits and saddles. Thus an unmarked peak showing 7 full contour intervals of 40 feet (same as 8 actual rising contour lines between saddle and summit) can also add 20 feet for an interpolated summit height, and 20 feet more drop for the saddle, giving expected drop of 320', and we assume this peak meets the 300' drop criteria. Another way of stating this - assuming 40' contour intervals, the calculation formula should be 40xN, where N is the number of contour above the saddle. This assumes summit and saddle elevations are not available. We realize that 7 full contour intervals of 40 feet does not give a _proven_ 300 foot prominence, as we are requiring for 2K and 5K peaks. However, the 7 contour interval standard was in existence for 300' summits well before this FRL, so we continue to use it for historical reasons. Per Alan Dawson, out of 1553 Marilyns, only 179 are in England, 156 are in Wales, 1214 are in Scotland and 5 are on the Isle of Man (one is joint English/Welsh). There are an additional 453 Marilyns on the whole island of Ireland, as listed by Clem Clements. Marilyns have 150 meter (492') drop. 6).
