Clarendon County Highpoint Trip Report

We found things as Fred Lobdell described. We walked from paved SR 261 (not willing to risk getting
stuck in sand again). The biting flies at the swamp (Broadway Branch on quad) are almost absent on
higher ground. Walking the jeep track enabled us to select our bushwhack route rather than following the
ridge as Fred did. We found a semblance of a trail ascending from the west about half way to where the
track tops out. Perhaps it was just a connected series of open patches, but it was not brushy at all.
The small summit has a 360-degree view and we agreed that it was the highlight of the day.
Being a wild off-trail hill above a swamp it offered a sense of remoteness
and an expansive view over the low country.
