York County High Point Trip Report
Date: October 18, 1999

Good advance work here. I called Mrs. Owens and she said, "Any friend of Walt's
is welcome here." We visited first thing Saturday, and though she was out she had
told us we were free to go to the summit. Be sure to call ahead is all.
The road beyond her house hooks around and ends at a radio tower just below the summit.
You will see an obvious hill. If you contour left of it, you will find a sign for
Sunset Point with a nice view and a bench; then scramble up the steep hillside
to a forested summit with a couple likely summit rocks.
Views are fabulous over the quarry and plains. Two peaks are visible,
which I am assuming are Kings Pinnacle (summit of Gaston Co.) and Crowders Mtn.
(I noticed another trip report listed Kings Mtn. as HP of Gaston,
but Kings Mountain is a nearby peak in the state and military parks
and is not a highpoint of any county - I hope that was just a typo but here
the designation Mtn. or Pinnacle is important since they designate separate peaks).
