York County High Point Trip Report
Date: late July 1998
Author: Walt O'Neil
From SC 161 go east on Rt. 55 1.7 miles to Henry Knob Road.
Turn left and take an immediate right onto a gravel road and go through the gate.
Stop at the second house on the right for permission. The house is 0.5 mile and another
0.7 mile to the top with a good view of the old mine and dump ponds. Park and scramble
up to the obvious HP, which is a large rock-very short scramble.
The owner's name is
Amanda Owens, who loves to see visitors. In fact we were treated to a ride in her car
with a tour of her mountain, which she owned since 1982. It had been a park for a while
and remnants can still be seen, e.g., signs, grill, etc. When you approach her house
you will be greeted by dogs, which are noisy, but friendly.
