The distance from the tunnel exit on SD 87 to the turnoff into the "Firewood Area" is 0.3 mile. The gate is no longer signed as "Firewood Area". It is the first right pullout after leaving the tunnel. The gate was unlocked but there was a chain and unlocked padlock hanging on the gate. Probably best to park on the road side of the gate in case someone decides to lock the gate while you are parked inside.

There is surveyor tape on trees leading up to the highpoint which is the highest point at the end of the ridge.
