Hyde County High Point Trip Report
two areas (2,200+ ft)

Area 1: From the intersection of highways 34 and 47 in Fort Thompson go north on 47 for 19.6 miles and
turn left onto Hyde county 961 (at the big water tower: "Mid-Dakota RWS"). Go a mile and park on the
right at the fence line just past the radio towers. Hike across the road and over the fence and follow the
south running fence for 500 meters to three 20-foot high posts. Spot an old cow trail taking you southeast
200 meters onto the knoll. Good level practice here. One mile round trip.
Area 2: Continue west on 961 and turn left in 3 miles just before the power lines. Pass the Dead End sign
and go 1.2 miles to the Stirlings ranch. No one was there when I arrived. I parked just outside the ranch
entrance and sprinted in heavy rain along the south running fence for a few minutes then veered up onto the
hill to the west. Sloshed around then set a new worlds record on the return trip. 1.5 miles round trip.
