Chester County Highpoint Trip Report
Sand Mtn (740+ ft)
Date: September 5, 2004
Author: Mike Beavers
Ken Oeser's report is fine but I couldn't find the road that Ken mentions in his report so I went on down
Highway 22 to the Fire Tower and turned next to it. It is called Tower Road. Stay on Tower Road for 0.8 mile.
At this point another road comes in from the left and Tower Road turns into Sand Mountain Road.
Bear to the right and stay on Sand Mountain Road. After 0.4 mile you will see a locked gate and a white
double-wide trailer next to it. I stopped here and asked permission to park at the gate and walk to the high point.
The man in the trailer gave me the O.K. He lives at 3386 Sand Mountain Road. The gate had a sign
on it stating that the land was owned by International Paper Company and that the hunting rights had been
leased to some hunting club. As Ken said, the area as been recently logged and the high point is only about
150 yards from the road. The area is covered with small pine trees and lots of blackberry vines.
There is a nice view to the East.
The main problem with this county is that the road signs and DeLorme don't match at all.
