Hamilton County High Point Trip Report
Lookout Mountain
Date: April 2, 2000
Author: Mike Beavers
Lookout Mountain has two high points.
Lookout Mountain is not hard to find. There are plenty of signs pointing the way to the
various tourist attractions on top of the mountain. After I reached the top of the mountain
the first one that I completed was between 2 water towers next to the City Hall.
The area was posted "Keep Out by ordinance of Lookout Mountain Police Department."
There were to sets of steps leading up to the water towers. I quickly ran up the steps
that were out of view of City Hall found the high point and left. I could not find the
register that Andy Martin left.
The other high point is close to the Incline Railway. I parked at the Incline and walked up
the street to see if I could find the bench mark that is suppose to be in the area.
The high point appears to be close to some very expensive houses. One of the two houses
looked vacant so I walked up on the porch and then left.
I did not look around in these peoples yards. Walking up on the porch put me above the
highest ground in the area.
