Hawkins County High Point Trip Report
Chimney Top Mtn (3,118 ft)

I used Ken Oeser's trip report to reach the top of this mountain. The Fire Tower Road sign is gone.
I parked at what I thought was the right house and asked permission.
I started following what I thought was the correct road but it soon ran out. After the road ran out I
bushwhacked to the top. The only problem I encountered was near the top when I run into a cliff that was
impossible for me to climb. I then started heading south along the wall until I found a place that I could climb up.
I reached the ridge line close to the fire tower. I couldn't find the bench mark but I did find two
witness marks. The old fire tower is still there.
After I reached the top I decided to hike north along the ridge line to the airway beacon located on the other
end of the mountain top. The beacon has been abandoned for along time. It looks like it might have been
used in the forties and fifties. It looks like it was an old rotating light beacon. It was easier to slide down
the mountain than walk.
It took me 1 hour 45 minutes to reach the top and 1 hour, 15 minutes to get back down to the bottom.
I talked to the lady and her son who let me park and climb the mountain. She said that it took her son only
about an hour to reach the summit. I don't think my dog liked this trip at all.
