Overton County High Point Trip Report

Hampton Mtn (2,020+ ft)

From I-40, take exit 300 to Monterey. Head northeast out of town on Highway 164. Travel 1.7 miles to Anderson Road, turning left (north). Travel 1.5 miles on Anderson Road to Ridge Road (not named on topo, but signed) turning left. At 0.4 mile, I saw a spur road to the right, which took me a few hundred feet off Ridge Road before it rutted out.

From here, I bushwhacked down a ravine and up to the summit to the East. Hampton Mountain is very flat on top, covered with trees and offered no views (except for more trees). There are remnants of roads on top, so the possibility of Martinizing may be available to those with 4WD, if you could find the turnoff from Anderson or Ridge Road. I saw no restrictive signs nor did I cross any fences by this route, although I assume the mountain is privately owned.
