Davis County High Point Trip Report

Thurston Peak

Date: July 4, 2000
Author: Ken Jones

The "High in Utah" description is good. A couple of notes - we missed the left turn on 100 East, because it came sooner than I expected. It is the first left. And the service road which continues on the east side of Francis Peak and on to the radio tower would be passable with high clearance all the way to the west shoulder of the radio tower peak (9381'). We drove part of it in a low clearance 2WD car, but found a spot just above 9000' that I was unsure about getting back up, so we parked at the ~9100' saddle just NNE of Francis Peak.

On this date, there were a couple of steep, hard snow patches on the sides of bumps 9491' and 9423' which we detoured above or below.

Our round trip was about 7.5 miles with 2200' of gain (there's a lot of up and down on the ridge). Our round trip was under 5 hours with a break on top.
