We chose a nontraditional route for Delano Peak, the HP of Fishlake National Forest and a twofer, as well.

Heading east out of Beaver on state Highway 153, we traveled approximately 16 miles to FS Road 123, turning left. At 5.4 miles, this 2WD road crosses Poison Creek.

We parked here and head up the right fork of Poison Creek to top of the ridge. A turn to the right, bypass the snow fields, scamper up the talus, and you're there - Delano Peak's summit. By this route, the distance from trailhead to summit is 1.2 miles, with no trail to speak of. You do have a steep climb by choosing this route however, with a total gain of over 1300 feet (20% grade).

The weather was perfect. As a bonus, we were entertained by a herd of mountain goats, munching on tundra just below the summit. The register, an old Lasco bait jar, was stuffed full of signatures. A more appropriate container would be welcome.
