Albemarle County Highpoint Trip Report

Snow on the ground made it a short, interesting hike -- better than simply
driving into the campground in the summer, anyway. I parked on the Skyline
Drive at the Doyle Rivers Trailhead (milepost 81.1 or so) and followed the AT
towards the top of Loft Mountain. The upper part of the route was snow-covered.
When I reached the spur trail leading towards the campground amphitheater,
I followed it for a ways then bushwhacked directly uphill for a short distance
once I got closer to the top. Although the campground roads were mostly clear,
there was snow on the actual highpoint. No one else was around except the deer
and woodpeckers.
