Amelia County High Point Trip Report

I visited the two areas along route 616. The smaller, more northern area is covered with planted pines,
about 8-10" diameter, and moderately thick vines. The ground surface has apparently been altered by the
planting of the pines (in rows). I waded through the vines but no spot stood out as higher than the remainder.
The larger, more southerly area with spot elevation of 522' on the USGS map appears to include the actual
high point on the east side of route 616. It apparently lies south of the junction of routes 616 and 657 and
north of an old country store (closed) on the east side of 616. The exact highpoint is hard to identify but I
walked over that entire piece of land, which is a few feet higher than the road and adjacent ground within the
520-foot contour. I wasn't able to check things with a clinometer or level due to trees and buildings in the way.
There are houses which appear to be inhabited across the road from both areas, but I didn't see anyone
in them and no one said anything to me while I was walking around the spots.
