Arlington County High Point Trip Report
Minor Hill (480 ft)
Date: April 1, 2001
Author: Dan Case
The HP is in the residential neighborhood just to the north of the reservoir area.
Follow US 29 south out of Washington (Lee Highway) to Sycamore Avenue on the right in western
Arlington. A mile and a half up past the large park it forks at an obvious incline. Bear right onto
Williamsburg Road past the large reservoir above you and then almost immediately turn left onto
Rockingham. A small historical marker here explains how the hill got its name, its history of use in both
the Revolution and Civil wars and lastly that it's the highest point in the county.
But you're not there, you have to drive uphill to Powhatan Road on the right. The true high ground is, to
me, the fence line along the house at the northern corner of the next intersection on the right (36th street,
I think). There might be higher ground inside it, but it's only a few inches more, and covered with dense
vegetation and low hanging branches to boot.
