Augusta County High Point Trip Report
Elliott Knob (4,458 ft)
Date: June 2001
Author: Ryan Bowles
Take route 250 west from Staunton. Just after Churchville, turn south on route 42. At the junction with
route 254, turn right to stay on route 42. Go 0.7 more miles, and turn right on route 688. Take this
well-maintained gravel road 4 miles until reaching a crest.
Park here at the North Mountain Trail trailhead on the left.
Hike this trail uphill for about 4 miles until it comes out on a dirt road. Turn right on the road for about
0.2 mile until coming to a evergreen forest near a radio tower. Turn left onto an old road that leads to the
summit with a fenced observation tower. The high point appears to be on the jumble of rocks to the right of
the tower outside the fence.
You can also hike the dirt road, which I assume is gated at the bottom. The road intersects route 42, but I
don't know where.
