Augusta County Highpoint Trip Report
Date: March 5, 2007
Author: Charlie Zerphey
I used Don Desrosiers' report for this one and after reading all the other
reports I thought Elliot Knob would be a piece of cake. Started on the good
gravel road, which turned to dry dirt, which eventually turned to mud.
As I got into the higher elevations it turned to snow and mud and, after about
2/3 of the up it got very, very windy and the road turned to snow, icy snow and
ice and higher up winds seemed to be in the 40/50 mph range. As I got around
the west and north side near the summit, I swear the winds were in the 60s.
Between the snow, ice, and winds I almost turned back but this old body
practically crawled to the summit.
Don's reported a time of 2.3 hours round trip. Under the conditions noted my
time was 3 hours and 5 minutes.
