Fairfax City High Point Trip Report

Roy Wallen's fieldwork leads me to concur with him: You can skip the area to the northwest, the grassy
bump between the Lamplighters Restaurant and the Burlington Coat Factory. It's visibly lower than the
ground around the water tower, and I would also add that it's in a heavily man-made area to boot.
The water tower behind the Homelife furniture store can be reached either by continuing along US 29
from Falls Church and Arlington to where it joins up with US 50 in Fairfax, or by a short detour from
Interstate 66 Exit 57 (VA 236). Following the latter into east into Fairfax leads you to Germantown Road,
from which it's a short distance down to the intersection with 29 and 50.
The store is on the intersection's northwest corner, and there is absolutely no problem getting through the
fence to the high ground next to the tower, marked by a large maple tree.
