Franklin County Highpoint Trip Report

Fred Lobdell's directions were right on the mark. I strongly recommend parking at the gate.
I got 3/10 of a mile farther up and thought myself lucky to get that far.
As one of the guys in the crew working on the road put it,
"The higher it gets, the steeper it gets."
The saddle mentioned by Fred at 2,700 feet is as high as the road crews drive.
After that, they take ATVs to the top. The road is surfaced with loose gravel,
and is pretty much out in the open.
Why I did this one at 3 pm on a hot Virginia day is beyond me.
Great views to the southeast at about 3,300 feet.
