two areas 1.5 miles north northeast of Oilville (390+ ft)
Date: May 1, 2002
Author: Dale Millsap
First Area: From Eastbound I-64 take exit 167 for Oilville. Set your odometer to zero. Go north on
SSR617 Oilville Road.
(If you come from Westbound I-64 subtract 0.15 from all of the following odometer readings.)
Follow Oilville Road as it bears slightly right at 0.5 mile. At 0.75 mile, turn hard left to follow
SSR617 (now Pinhook Road). At 1.34 miles, turn right on Lavaga Drive. At 1.43 miles, turn right onto a
two-track farm road. This road follows a wall of trees for about 1500 feet. Park at odometer reading 1.53.
The high ground is in the middle of a field on your left, near a utility pole.
Second Area: Follow two-track back out to Lavaga Drive and turn left. Continue straight through the
intersection with SSR617 onto a shared gravel driveway. At odometer reading 1.83, turn right onto a
two-track along a power line right-of-way. At 1.9, park and walk east into a thickly wooded area.
The high ground is between 500-1000 feet due east of your vehicle and covers a rather broad area.
