Don't go the way I did. I went up the southern dirt road shown on the topo, which passes through heavily
posted areas with very strong warning against trespassers.
Trespassing is totally unnecessary, because the summit is in a Virginia state wildlife management area open
to the public, with public access from the west and east and possibly even open gates so that you can drive
to the top. Too bad I didn't realize that until I was halfway up the mountain.
Here's the
web site for the wildlife management area.
The web site contains a map that makes it very clear how best to get to the summit. The dirt road that
seems to end suddenly in the middle of nowhere is the western summit, with a collapsed tower.
An easy bushwhack east leads to the second area.
