King William County Highpoint Trip Report

I accessed this county through many turns on county roads from the King & Queen CoHP but the easiest
access is direct from I-95 Exit 99, SR-30.
Both hp's are directly along this road, near the community of Calno, about 9 miles east of I-95.
Note: this hp is very likely a "close enough" one. The entire area containing both hp areas is very, very flat,
and completely overgrown with young trees and brush. It is absolutely impossible to determine exactly
where the natural hp was or where it is now. Leveling is useless, and it would have taken weeks to survey
the place out and find the exact hp. Also, it's highly likely that the original USGS surveyors probably got
things "close enough" as well.
The two areas shown on the topo are fairly close to pavement. The western area is reached off an old
logging road (not posted); the eastern area is between two houses off 601, which leads south from SR-30 in Calno.
I made a good-faith effort in both cases, grinding my way through the woods and gridding out the area as
best I could. I consider it done; if you are a complete and total purist, plan on taking half a day to grid this
one to make sure. I wandered around for an hour on one and thirty minutes on the other, and called it good.
