Warren County High Point Trip Report
Date: November 3, 2001
Author: Roy Wallen
This highpoint is located along the Appalachian Trail (AT) in the Shenandoah National Park. Admission for
a 7-day pass was $10 per vehicle. Proceed along the Skyline Parkway from either the north or south to
Hogback Overlook, just north of mile marker 21. Park here.
Walk north along the west side of the parkway to a gated, partly-paved track where the AT crosses the parkway.
Turn left (northwest) into the woods along the AT. Ascent to the highpoint can be made by
following either the road or the AT to the summit of Hogback Mountain. Just past the towers and buildings
on the summit, you should see a witness post to the right and another to the left. Just to the left of the
second post is the benchmark, with the summit rocks just beyond it.
Round trip distance from the Parkway to the summit is approximately 0.2 mile.
