Waynesboro City High Point Trip Report

I returned to verify some possible discrepancies in the location of the city/county line. I found the HP rock
outcrop and took a GPS reading (38° 3.141' N, 78° 52.803' W). From the reading and the coordinates of the line,
I verified that the location is actually within the city. Then I found something even more convincing - a
concrete witness post with the marker "CORP-LINE" which I take to be from the city survey. The post was
located southeast of the HP about 100 - 150 feet. It is interesting to note that Topozone doesn't have the
most recent data on annexation for this area. From my observations, however, I don't believe the HP will
ever change. The city is spreading out toward the west, not the east. Furthermore, the National Forest
boundary is very close to the city/county line, and the city won't ever be annexing any of that.
