Franklin County Highpoint Trip Report
Date: October 12, 2010
Author: Adam Helman
note: All coordinates are in the WGS84 datum.
This effort was part of a larger journey
collecting New England county highpoints in October 2010.
With only about 200 vertical feet remaining to the top, the Long Trail
intersects
a ski-run southeast of the summit at (44.92239° N, 72.52437° W) with a GPS-measured
3,680 foot elevation.
For those continuing to Big Jay of nearby Franklin County, use of a GPS-track
provided by Dennis Poulin suggests that the critical location for leaving the Long Trail is
here
at (44.92419° N, 72.52921° W) with an estimated elevation of 1,104 meters (3,622 feet).
Determination is based on simultaneous inspection of his track with an Acme.com-viewed
topographic chart in two adjacent browser windows. I estimate a maximal 100 foot
horizontal error for this exercise.
It is highly desirable that somebody measure the exact coordinates
of this trail's start as it leaves the ski trail and enters the forest.
