Drive I-90 westbound from Spokane or eastbound from Ritzville to the Tokio Road exit, which is only a few
miles from Ritzville. On the south side of the interchange is an Exxon station, and across the road east of
the station we turned east on Danekas Road, paved. We drove this road 4.2 miles and turned right on
Wellsandt Road. We drove 0.7 mile to an unimproved farm road on the right that leads up into a draw
toward the HP area plateau. We drove this road in a Honda Accord,
but if you're not comfortable you could walk it.
At 0.3 mile the road ended, and we followed the GPS WNW for about 0.5 mile toward the highpoint.
We found a rather long pit at what seemed like the HP. We walked to another rise about 0.15 mile northish but
it was clearly lower than our first choice. I forgot to take a photo of the GPS, so we don't have the
coordinates of our preferred spot. We were there at about 8AM on a Saturday and didn't see any other
vehicles except on the freeway. It was a perfect time of year for this cohp with firm soil and plenty of room
for our boots between the rows of winter wheat.
