Douglas County Highpoint Trip Report

highpoint area coordinates
This effort was part of a larger journey
collecting Idaho, Montana, and Washington county highpoints in late June and early July 2009.
I used largely Edward Earl's report for this one,
and found the road instructions perfect. Unlike Edward, however, I continued on
the road to park abeam the eastern contender. At my pickup truck I obtain
WGS84 coordinates (47.58402° N, 120.17943° W), elevation 4,253 feet.
From here I walk 50 meters south and grid the flattish, brushy area until satisfied.
I then drive farther west, passing under power transmission lines and parking along
the road shortly thereafter. A five minute walk brings me to the western contender,
for which I obtain WGS84 coordinates (47.58298° N, 120.19311° W), elevation 4,220 feet.
The latter seems too low, and I assume that my unit is feeling under-the-weather,
possibly due to the transmission line's proximity.
Looking southwest the area mentioned in Bob Bolton's
report with spot elevation 4,243 seems lower.
