King County High Point Trip Report
Mount Daniel
Date: August 8, 2003
Author: Greg Slayden
A nice all-day scramble, and one of the easier of the monster HPs of Washington to attain.
We left the trailhead for Daniel at 5 AM, got to the summit via the Southeast Ridge at 11:15 AM,
and descended from noon to 4:20 PM via the bowl of the Hyas Creek snowfield/glacier. Still several big
snowfields up there, and ice axes came in handy, especially for some glissades on the descent.
A long route, gaining about 5000 feet total, with some route-finding issues, but by WA standards not too bad.
CoHP #119 and #120 for Greg; for Edward, above 200.
Mount Daniel might be one of the most prominent peaks in the US (3,500 feet) with its key saddle
(Deception Pass) located on the same USGS 7.5' quad.
