Mason County High Point Trip Report

Stone Mountain

Date: August 16, 2001
Author: Bob Packard

Used Putvin Trail (trailhead at 1575). Trail is very steep and in an avalanche chute that gives way to a use route to base of Stone. I felt that 3 spots on summit were 4th class. We used no rope on way up, but used rope self-belay on those 3 places on way down. A little like Washakie Needles in Wyoming.

Also there is no way to access the trail above the trailhead and the summit is 6612, so this is a 5,000 ft gainer. If this is not added to that list I want to know the reason why.

Trip Statistics: 10 hours, 8 miles, 5200 feet elevation gain.
