Whitman County Highpoint Trip Report
Date: June 23, 2006
Author: Adam Helman
This effort was part of a larger journey
collecting Idaho, Montana, and Washington county highpoints in late June and early July 2006.
The approach road is indeed difficult to negotiate, particularly below a
triangle-shaped set of junctions
one-half way to the summit radio towers.
I chose the left fork at this junction, contouring north along the western slopes
of the upper mountain. It is passible.
Upon parking at the summit radio towers I noted that the right fork entails a very steep
and rutted section just prior to "topping out".
Given the above observations, I recommend bearing left at the indicated junction.
A passenger car is not an option for this one. Either hike from
the base at Route 60, or exercise your high-clearance vehicle's capabilities.
