We caravaned from Galena to the town of Fennimore, WI. Areas 1-6 west of Fennimore, west to east.
Areas 7-12 north of Fennimore, south to north.
Area 1: Go west on US 18 from Fennimore to Hunters Hollow Road. Turn north (right) on Hunters
Hollow Road. After about 1 mile, road curves sharply to north. Park here, cross gate into field.
Walk up fence line to high spot. This area has little or no gain, and is not a candidate for the highest point.
Area 2: Return to US 18, head east back towards Fennimore. After 1 mile, you will pass the Spring Valley Road.
Park on roadside 1/4 mile beyond this road. Cross US 18 to north side of highway, climb embankment,
cross fence into pasture. Highest area is near clump of trees. Little gain here as well.
Area 3: Continue east on US 18 for 1/4 mile to farm road on the north. Drive or walk up the road 1/4 mile
to ridge, high area is in field to the west. Little gain.
Area 4: Continue east on US 18 for 1 mile. This area straddles the road. The highest area is near a
telephone pole roughly in the middle of the area.
Area 5: Continue east on US 18 for 1 mile. There is a small field road on the south side. Walk this road
into the high area. The high ground had been in hay, recently harvested. Some gain in contour.
Area 6: Continue east on US 18 for 2 miles to group of houses on north side. At main farmhouse,
ask permission to hike back into fields. Fortunately, the field was recently harvested hay. The highest area is in
the northwestern lobe. There is 8-10 feet of gain in this contour, making it one of two likely candidates for
the highest point in the county.
Areas 7/8: Continue east on US 18 to Fennimore. Turn north on US 61 ~4 miles to Hickory Grove Golf Club.
Park here, or on side of road. Areas on either side of the highway. Flat, with little gain.
Area 9: Continue north on US 61 for 1/4 mile to County Road T - area is 1/2 mile on left at bend in road -
little or no gain.
Area 10: From Area 9, continue a 100 yards or so to field road going east off of County T. Hike Road to crest.
This is the highest point in this area, and the other likely contender for County Highpoint.
Areas 11/12: Return to US 61, turn north. The two areas are on either side of the road just north
of the intersection. Neither show much gain.
