Kewaunee County High Point Trip Report
Cherneyville Hill
Date: November 20, 2000
Author: John Mitchler
This wooded hill rises significantly from the flat farmland. Take I-43 south out of Green Bay to exit 178.
Follow the signs east for WI29 (tricky turns after you get off the interstate). On WI29, go 9.5 miles to
Stodola Road which is 0.5 miles east of CR V. Go right (south) for 1 mile to Cherney Road (called
Cherneyville Road in the DeLorme) and turn left (east). The owners of the hill reside in a farmhouse and
trailer on the right (south) side of Cherney Road. After obtaining permission from John Ruschka, drive
east on Cherney Rd for several hundred feet and turn right (south) on either of two lanes that extend to the
hill. Park at the base of the hill. Much of the south and west sides of the hill have been gouged away for
gravel, so pick a spot that can gain you the full slope to the summit. During our visit, a howling cold
wind urged us to walk around the hill to the southeast for a more pleasant climb. On the summit, a
triangulation marker has been uprooted and leans against a tree. The BM, 1955, is on the northern (and
higher) most of the two summit humps. Personally I wish this hill could be coverted to a ski slope or
county park lookout before it gets eaten away for its gravel content. If that fate awaits it, another hillock in
the nearby Montpelier Hills will then take over the county highpoint duty for Kewaunee County.
