Platte Mounds - north mound (1,440+ ft)

I followed John Mitchler's approach, driving 3 miles east from Platteville on US 151, then north on West Mound Road. To save time, rather than hiking up the steps at the big "M" on the south mound, I continued north on West Mound Road to the point where it cuts in farthest east, just below the saddle between the north and south mounds. From here it's an easy, not very steep, bushwhack to the saddle, then a short hike to the north summit. The use trail on the ridgetop is now marked by red surveyor's tape.
