Langlade County High Point Trip Report
Kent Lookout Tower
Date: November 2000
Author: John Mitchler
After messing around with the flat multiple areas of Menominee, this county provided a welcome relief in
the form of a scenic hill topped by a very tall lookout tower. The owners, Georgia-Pacific, allow
recreational use of the land.
From US45 and WI52 in the center of Antigo, take WI52 east through the flat potato farmland of the Eau
Claire River valley. This highway makes many turns so be mindful. After 11.3 miles, watch for Kent
Road on the right (south). Go 1/4 mile past Kent Rd to an unmarked gravel road on the right (south).
Take that road south through woods. After 0.5 miles, watch for the Ice Age Trail (Wiconsin's version of
the AT). At mile 2.7 watch on the right (west) for a dirt road that extends off at an acute angle (i.e., it's
easy to miss). A swinging gate crosses this road and two boulders block it as well. Park.
Walk 1/3 mile on the dirt road to the hilltop. Tall trees hide the lookout tower until you're upon it. The
only access to the tower's observatory is an open air ladder, however there is a fixed metal cable for the
use of an ascender. I'm unsure if rope Jumars would work on metal cable. Snow hid the BM.
