Morgan County Highpoint Trip Report

I used Mike Schwartz's and Don Desrosiers’s fine reports. Prior to going to
this HP, Don stated that the access road to the summit was rumored to be closed
from October through Memorial Day, which turned out to be true.
I then located the Ranger Station which was also closed but the building next to
it was the Rangers home. I explained to him all about Highpointers (of which he
was not aware). He was not on duty but was very accommodating and radioed the
Ranger on duty, who in turn met us at the gate, unlocked the gate. and let us enter,
closed the gate but not locked, and asked me to lock the gate when we exit.
OUR LUCKY DAY. Actually, I don't see any reason for locking the gate
since the road was plowed past the HP to the Cacapon Mountain Overlook.
The BM and cairn are exactly 0.3 mile from the Radio Tower entrance.
The cairn was nonexistent so I added 6 or 7 or 8 stones to rock with the BM
to make a cairn. The winds were extremely strong.
