Summer’s Snowy Solstice

Team TZT remains encamped at 14,200 due to poor weather. Winds at the top are said to be blowing at 50 mph. The prospects of moving up over the next couple of days are not good, according to Rob. Six inches of snow fell overnight at camp with another six inches throughout the day, and “no one is happy about having to shovel snow on June 22nd.”

TZT’s neighbors include a Japanese team who are on the mountain to service a weather station (pictured above) at 19,500 ft. which has stopped transmitting. The leader of that team has reportedly been on the mountain 19 times.

A summer solstice party was held in a huge tent and was attended by 25 climbers. Chris and Dave Covill went to the party and met Chris Davenport, the first skier to ski down all 54 Colorado 14ers. Mr. Davenport has been spending the last few weeks skiing the various faces of Denali.
